- Set of twenty seven figures
Pune
Height x 15 cms
Circa 1865
Set of twenty seven figures made at Pune in the Bombay Presidency, perhaps by a modeller such as Sitaram Joshi.
These figures resemble those made by Jadu Nath Pal in Krishnagar, both in their superior finish and in the practice of using specially-woven cloth for their dresses.
This collection is in remarkable condition, the textiles have not faded or degraded to any degree and the vibrancy of their colours adds to their overall splendour of this group.
Another aspect is the attention to detail which can be seen clearly in the pyjamas of the nautch girl although these cannot be seen they are beautifully patterned and wonderfully coloured Ikat work.
There is a handwritten list describing this group dated Bombay 25th March 1865.
